School IMPROVEMENTS

International Baccalaureate Candidate School

• Westhill Institute became a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12
• Westhill Institute became an Interested School for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program – grades 6 to 10
• Westhill Institute became an Interested School for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program . Grades Pre-K to 5
• As part of the requirements for implementation of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, Grade 6 from both elementary campuses was moved to Middle School

NWEA one of the first computerized adaptive assessments (MAP exams)

• Full implementation of Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing in grades 2 – 11
• Leveled classes based on students' MAP scores in English and mathematics in grades 7 to 9.
• Leveled classes based on students' MAP scores in English and mathematics planned for grades 4 to 6

• School Improvement Committee active and working to fully implement Westhill's School Improvement
Plan as part of our SACS / AdvancED Quality Assurance Review
• A comprehensive anti-bullying program was added to the curriculum for school year 2011 – 2012.
• Miss Caitlin Briggs was named Assistant Principal for Middle and High School
• Students in grades 7 to 12 participated in an interdisciplinary field trip to the archeological site of Teotihuacan .

Great News

The Harvard Association
Seniors Pablo Velasco and Fernando Porras participated in the Harvard Association Cultivating Inter-American Democracy Summit of the Americas held in Ecuador.

Pablo was awarded first place for his participation and Fernando was awarded second place. Congratulations to these two outstanding Westhill students!

Hopkins University
Grade 9 student Arzu Martinez participated in a special gifted and talented education project hosted by Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Congratulations Arzu!
